Um.. AC, 110 runnin volts, pure tungsten rod, pedal to the metal. I pretty much let the instructor set it up. He welded one side, then I welded the other.
After I finished this, I welded together all the aluminum test pieces my class turned out on the lathe and end mill. After I welded all the pieces together, I started running beads over all the flat surfaces. In the process, I accidentally grabbed a 308 rod, and discovered that it is ridiculously hard to weld aluminum with a stainless steel rod!.
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
