    Pictures would be a big help here. In my estimation, though, in this situation, if things don't fit the way they ought to, I'd be inclined to make new stuff that does fit right. I know the general setup you have, and losing a steering rod while moving could be disastrous; don't take a chance on it.

    I second Rumbler. Something as serious as steering can not be jerryriged, your life and maybe others may be at stake.
