Manufacturers of fiberglass bodies 1940 Ford
I've recently purchased a 1940 Ford coupe, 3 window, chopped & trimmed. I'm trying to find out the manufacturer of the body. I do not think it's a Monitti. Who makes a fiberglass body for a 1940 Ford coupe?
Thanks for your help.

A picture of the car would help. If the car has a split windshield, it rules out OZE.
A quick google search brought up a few possibilities.

As far as I know, Downs never made a '40 Ford coupe body. The made several '37 models. I did another google search and came up with a website for the current owners of the Downs product line. Downs quit making car bodies, soon after I placed the order for my '37 OZE, in 2013. At that time, I wanted to buy a '37 truck with '40 rear fenders as a roller, but they no longer made a chassis for the body. They told me to try Lucky 7 for the chassis. If you check out the "about us" link, it explains the history.
Down used to have the ability to make custom chassis, rollers and complete cars.

A 40 "three window coupe"??? I thought they were all five windows? If it is three, it would be a big clue.

You might take a look at Full Blown Hot Rodz in Folsom, LA who makes a 3 window coupe and a roadster; and Supreme Hot Rods in Winder, GA who makes a 3 window coupe. Links - Fiberglass Bodies For Sale and Hot Rod Bodies - 1932 3 Window Coupe, 1932 coupe, 1935 Coupe, Fiberglass Body PartsRoger

I missed the 3-window description in the original post. That's a real distinction, since there were no 3 window models built after '36. The Full Blown '40 3-window has a distinct top profile that looks like they copied a Wild Rod '37 body and put different fenders on it. Wild 37
One thing that can't be stopped is other people copying a body, once it's out on the market. This company copied the '37 Oze hardtop body long ago. 1937 Ford Coupe parts and accessories for sale; '37 Coupe hot rod packageLast edited by daveS53; 05-16-2014 at 02:08 PM.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
