Yes, removing the caps will open the RD briefly to ambient air, but if you put the caps back on within a few minutes the amount of moisture that you'll introduce is negligible, especially if you plan to pump the system down to the lowest vacuum you can pull and letting it "cook off" any moisture for a few minutes before introducing the refrigerant charge.Roger
