Just some of my buddy's toys

I went over to my buddy Steve's place this past weekend because I'm buying his COE from him and my brother took some pics of his rods he's working on. He's got his 27T Tall sedan that he's getting the interior done on to sell, his 29 Phaeton he's building a top for and hoping to drive it to Torque Fest, his wife's little red truck, and the last are of the 54 GMC COE.

What steering column is in there? No matter, that will be fun project to do. I have a friend that has a very early Ford COE that is about to win the battle of do I do it or not. LOL Is the COE all there?

The COE body wise is all there. He has the hood, it just isn't on it yet. The column is from the GM camper which is the chassis it is sitting on. I think it was late 70's or early 80's P style GM chassis. The cab is already mounted and all the cab mounts are built. The steering column is hooked up and he moved and relocated the steering box to get it to work correctly. The front coil springs have been removed for air bags, and he has some air bags to go in the rear. It currently has a 454 Th400 behind the cab, and I plan to put a 24v 5.9 Cummins in it's place. The cab has some rust in the LH lower A'pillar and door. It has some dents but really not bad for around here. I'd like to get a visor for it and maybe put a 2 piece windshield in it. I'd like to get it mobile this summer. We shall see.

I started whittling on a 40 Ford COE a few years back. I lost interest and decided to sit on it until I got the fire for it again. I now leave it in front of the shop for Eye Candy. A few months ago I put a not for sale sign on it as I would have 5 or 6 phone messages every Monday morning from guys wanting to know if it was for sale! I finally covered it up... it was getting too well known here! There is something about those COE's...

So I now want to find an original 35 or 36 Full Sized Ford flatbed truck that I can put a Dodge Cummings in... The plan is to find a Pepsi trailer with all the roll up doors along the sides so I can do the dog and pony show with my seat frames. Id like to start making the car show circuit and peddle my wares... Maybe a full sized Chevy COE would be better suited! I'm really liking what your starting with. Be sure to keep us in the loop as you build it! And ya might want to do a serious photoshop chop on that bad boy and see what ya think. I chopped one a few years back and left about 5" Of window... Looked really sweet with lots of head room still in it... What ever its worth. LOL

Wow! Is that four Webers on the T? I'm having trouble tuning one Street Demon. I'd have nightmares with four Webers. That COE will make a really amazing ride. I've seen a couple and was always impressed.

Thanks, nothing screams old school hot rod like a Kuansit hut! LOL Your new COE is what this is all about! Seeing you get that kind of gets the juices flowing again. I'm anxious to see what your vision for it is?

It's actually a Speedmaster EFI that resembles a Hilgorn injection. He has had some troubles getting it tuned and running correctly. He actually thinks he has it fixed now. He found a bad wire terminal going to the fuel pump so hopefully that is the source of his problem.

I'm not sure yet 100% for sure. My thinking is build some sort of wedge back for it to be able to haul a car or truck on. I'm leaning towards hot rod black body with gloss black wheels and bumper, grill etc. It currently has 16's on it but I have a big Meritor axle that has 19.5's on it. I though about putting this axle in the rear with air ride since it has 3:31 gears, and putting a 19.5 up front as well. It depends how it sits I guess. I had envisioned dropping the suspension to help load a car but we'll see how that all plays out.

I was gong to do the same thing until I started thinking about where I was going to park it and leave it when it wasn't in use. I decided to do the tow truck looking bed with a fifth wheel hitch instead. The plan was to build an old school looking fifth wheel trailer that I could leave anywhere without fear of vandals or theft.

That is a cool idea too. I really, really, would like to turn it into a crew cab or a little longer and make a hauler bed for it but that will definitely be down the road. Haha

I have thought about a sleeper and then making a rail or track system to allow the sleeper to be slid back for maintenance. Then maybe leave the frame bare and add quarter fenders and make it a trailer toter?
