It's that motor that's the problem, I belive that was the first year for the 4.6. My dad had the Trition 4.6 ( truck version ) in his '97 F150 and he had tranny problems which, could relate to your under revving. My aunt had a '96 Towncar with the 4.6 and it gave a little grief but, nothing like that.You don't know what you've got til it's gone
