They are pressure sensors. They tell a computer how much air is in the tire and what the temperature of the tire is. They have a threshold usually around 25psi that the pressure must reach before the light comes on. If the light is blinking, they is a malfunction which most times means one of the sensors needs to bereplaced. They are battery operated and the batteries cant be changed
