    Overhead console build

I'm looking for some Ideas. To build my own overhead console. Any and all input welcome. Photo's would be great as well. Thinking about using plywood so I can upholster it. With some engine turned aluminum panels, or maybe polished aluminum.
Show me what you fellers done did.

I did a small overhead, sized just for a radio receiver unit. Mine has a plywood base and a sheetmetal front for the receiver mount, all fiberglassed together and worked smooth for upholstery. There may be some pictures of the process in my build thread - can't recall if I posted any during that piece or not.

I know a guy who built one for a 32 coupe. He used metal and welded it all together and then painted it wood grain. It turned out sweet! Here's another idea, have you ever looked at a over head console from a suburban? Maybe you could cut it down, trim the base and attach it with brackets on the inner roof. Then cover it how you want.

The thing to do is make all your patterns from sheets of cardboard. Then after cutting and fitting, then transfer them to plywood. I used the plywood that's 1/4" thick and both sides are smooth. You can get the wood from any home builders place like Lowes etc.

I purchased mine and modified it to extend all the way across the top, and then continued the design down the down the back with the rear window intersecting it.

Bubinga is a fantastic wood! If you like exotics this place will get you drooling Kansas City Division Only been up there a few times - kind of migrated away from heavy woodworks, but looking at yours may draw me back....

Really nice wood working, Shine!! Is that a padded dash in the '37? Would be curious to see more pics of that.

Beautiful wood in the pink one but that color wouldn't be my first choice.... Of course, that's one of the great things about this hobby, to each his or her own.....

Well, I certainly can't argue with that!

Nice job on the build. Is the cut out on the lower tail pan for exhaust? It's hard to tell in the pic.

Sorry, to highjack your thread, Creep. I know we're supposed to be talking about overhead consoles.....
