Optima batterys were good when they first came out. No one I know will touch a red top right now, way too many failures within short periods. My advice is stay away, I have replaced 5 of them in my personal cars. Discharging one seems to make them go quicker. Used to be a fan, not anymore, junk is junk.

    Optima Battery

For my race car, I did alot of research on durable batteries since I didn't want to charge in between races...I got an AGM 12/16 volt battery which was a waste of money especially when you have to get their special charger as well...$500!!

I ended up getting Optima's most powerful 12 volt battery, the D31A model..lots of reserve and have had no problem with it at all...and I'm sure it's great for a street rod..although the battery is longer than normal...and expensive i.e. $300. You won't find these in the stores but will have to order directly from a distributor.

For my street rod, I swear by First Interstate..my car will sit for 3-4 months and the battery never goes dead and the price is much more reasonable.

Anyone interested in buying an almost new 12/16 volt battery and charger??
