    1968 Datsun 510 with 327 swap

Ok im putting a 327 into my 510 and i have already got the engine compartment all set up and the chassis strengthened and i need to set up the suspension, drive shaft, diff., and exhaust. Does any one know how much HP a stock 510 rear diff can handle im hoping enough for a while but i plan on getting a Subaru diff for it soon. Any tips on the suspension and all that? Thanks!

I think you might want to consider a bit more substantial rear end, my choice would be a 9" Ford.. If the pickup is a leaf spring rear suspension, a pair of housing floaters and ladder bars will work great on the street!

Wow, that's going to be quite a sleeper! A 510 is a little sedan, right? Like Dave says, not sure you're going to want either the Datsun or Subaru diff. A 9" Ford would be sweet, but maybe a Toyota from a 4x4? Not sure of the width fit....

The thing is the datsun 510 is a little sedan and i would like to keep the independent rear suspension but i have looked around and found a subaru rear end that is said to hold 400 hp so im going to look into that but i can not stand ford parts every thing ford i have owned has failed catastrophically so im going to try and avoid it.

No offense or disrespect intended, but you are showing your inexperience or lack of knowledge with your statement about Ford parts as it relates to differentials. The Ford 9" has become the differential of choice for many, many street rods, muscle cars and off-road vehicles pushing power far exceeding what you'll ever get from your little 327. You'll find a wide range of folks here, some partial to the bowtie, some to the blue oval, and some to Mopar and we all get along quite well, generally.

    Good luck with your build.

Never used a ford Differential no problem giving it a shot. Can you recommend a good site to buy suspension parts at?

The Subaru will handle the power and is almost a bolt in swap on a 510,and would be the easiest way to go,with the irs,as it will bolt up to your half shafts. Brian

You do have other alternatives................8" Ford, 10 bolt Chev, 12 bolt Chev, a Dana rear...........
