I'll have to disagree with you on this one. Any body selling something needs to have there product stand out from the crowd. Ford used the 7 liter designation back in the 60's to call attention to the motor. Made someone feel special to say 7 liters, not 428 cid... Same with the 5.0 mustangs. "Everyone" is/was going metric anyway, so why not repeat the "magic" and make the car standout? Seems to have worked to! Didn't hurt that chevy "lost" some horsepower in the camaro!

Well...for this older HotRodder....there aint no sound like a BB Motor. you can tweak a SB to all the power you want and you will never get that sound......BUT........like said...you can get great horse power out of a SB wether its ford, chevy or dodge....without the weight and sound......I had a 460BBF for my truck all done up.....but with DOT laws I have to have fenders and the motor was too big and the front sump was going to be another issue for suspension clearance. So I sold it and the next motor I will build up will be a 351W SBF stroker and still get the HP that I would like to have......but I will lose that BB sound and will also lose about 250lbs of engine weight too. The 302SBF is a great popular motor...but for 450 HP+ they wont last as long as some bigger CID SB's

To clarify, which 5L are you talking about??? The old skinny block Windsor engine doesn't have much block strength, as others mentioned they crack easily....

However, the new DOHC 5L can do 450 horse quite easily plus get respectable fuel mileage and live quite well at that level

Just wanted to see if we are all talking the same engine....
