1947 ford coupe
Hey guys
Wanted you guys opinion on this car. Its includes New master cylinder, new wheel cylinder kits, new brake hoses, good used steering column with shifter, used radio(condition unknown), additional gauge cluster and I will change wheels to provide a set of original type wheels(inside hubcap nubs).
Flathead runs but tuneup needs tweeking by a flathead guru. It has a rebuilt carb, new points condenser plugs and wires, new water pumps hoses and rebuilt radiator. It has new 12v starter solenoid and a good 12v battery. rebuilt carb and fuel pump, installed new water pumps, spark plugs, wires, dist. cap, points, condensor, rotor, and radiator reconditioned and install it with new hoses and clamps.
It has a clear NC title. I talked him down to 4250. Is it worth it? Here are a few pics. Let me know what you guys think

Any "what's it/is it worth" thread on the www is a bit tough. Looks fairly complete, and typical rust for it's age (but that's relative to where a person is used to shopping). To me it "needs everything", but could be a running, driveable project as complete as it appears. A spruced up engine that "needs tuning" usually means it needs more than tuning, but you're able to inspect/evaluate I would presume (or take someone who is with you before parting with the bux). Double check the frame for excessive rust, especially where the X member ties back into the side rails. By our standards out this way, that's not a bad price for a titled coupe if there's nothing major wrong. It will nickle and dime you a fair bit though with the age and condition of each of the little things depending on how nice you want to make it.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Be a bit strong for me considering all the rust. I suppose if you're a flattie fan and the thing runs it would add to the value. Think around here something similar would be in the 3 to 35 range. For me, doubt I'd go more then 25, then have to find a place to pedal all the stock engine and driveline to get it down to a price where I could afford to start a build on it.... The rust issues seen are just a sign of issues yet to be uncovered, looks to be a labor intensive ($$$$$$$) project to me....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Nice,but to pricey for me,considering I wouldn't be using the drivetrain and suspension etc.

Honestly i think its not bad. Guy who has it seems to be stand up guy. I actually have a 46 and this car looks like a show car compared. I have a bare uncut chassis that i had planned to use. I don't want all the flatly stuff but figured i could drive it while i am building other chassis. I already have block tranny reared and mounting kit.

Here in NZ, that thing would of been snapped up instantly for that sort of money and heck, if you have the ability, that rust is only a minor issue.Last edited by Whiplash23T; 09-12-2011 at 11:24 PM.

Cool; save that interior! That's a pretty cool diamond tuck job and it looks like it's in good shape. It'd make a neat retro-rod if you can leave all that intact.

At that price I'd buy it.
Mind you, I paid less than that for a nice '48 Merc delivery.

At Fridays exchange rate,,thats $5057 NZ..plus freight here..but its not a bad number for us..Cant find much like that now for less,,and then it would be rotten,and in kitset form..If you guys knew what the average Kiwi hotrodder went through to rebuild a lot of the whipped and mistreated cars we have/had,down here,,you would be amazed.. I look at some of the stuff you guys have and wish it was that good here..

i talked to the guy he said there is no more rust in the car other than those spots. I am going to try and pick it up next weekend

Like Uncle Bob says....... the value depends a lot on your ability...new floors, new rockers, etc.....price them, the info is readily available. Can you install them? Make a list of what you are buying.....an interior? I think not. An engine? maybe you can sell it for $500. A body shell with a bit of termite damage? What do you want to gain by this purchase? You can make a list of what you are getting vs. the value of those parts.....and make an economic decision. The title and frame stamping is worth something.

Like Bob this would be a big red flag for me. These engnes are nothing to tune properly and if they can't get it running right chances are there are internal problems.
The rust would bother me, (but hey that's one of the reasons I live in AZ).
Personally I would run a compression check on the engine and personally check over the frame before I spent any money on it.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

Well he said what he meant by tune up was the points are not set right.he said he tried to do it but didn't do it right. Said it runs fine but don't rev as fast as it should

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
