I just rewired my car and have a dead short. When I touch the test light to the negative post on battery it lights really bright. Any quick checks to find it? Thanks

Disable the alternator and try it againKen Thomas

OK, it went away. I take it the problem is in the alt wiring.

Take the alternator and have it tested, depending on style the internal regulator is shot and/or the diode(s) are shorted outKen Thomas

Wow Ken, that was quick and right on!! My advice would have been to start pulling fuses until the light went out, but that would have had no fuses and still a light. Good job!Roger

Thanks, Roger. No telling how he fried it, but I'm assuming in his rewire he shorted something to ground and it ate the alternator. It should have been disconnected.Ken Thomas
