IF it were a monte frame, it would have coil spring pockets in the rear as part of the frame. If someone changed it to leaf springs, the sag is probably due either mismatched springs OR improper installation. If the frame is not a monte, it could have been tweaked in a wreck as posted earlier.
A monte frame is a bit wide for an old car.....was the frame narrowed in the back? Did they get that part straight? Unless they had a surface plate/jig, it would be possible to have it warp if they narrowed the frame.
I'm kind of old ( 70) and got it together, but you guys are confused!!!
It didn't dawn on me until I reread this thread, that the monte did originally have coil rear springs. We used those alot for stock cars. So with leaf on rear it has been modified or grafted. have you looked underneath at the frame to see what modifications were made. Unless they did a super job of fabrication, you should be able to see if the front crossmember was narrowed, if maybe a front sub was grafted to another frame. If any thing frame wise looks modified it may not be the springs but was not put together perfectly. If the frame looks unmodified the only thing gm that I can think of that might possibly fit would be maybe an S10, they have leaf in rear. The only other gm I can think of, other that 60's or 70's large gm, that has leaf rear is camaro and it doesn't have frame. If it looks solid and not cobbed together the solution may just be to shim one side of the rear to get it to sit proper. And the frame may be bent slightly. 1 degree in the right place will easily translate to an inch difference in corner heights.
