    How did you "make sure the head gaskets were on correct"? I was going to suggest that one might be on backwards, but you say you checked. Did you pull the heads?
    50 to 100 miles, it could just be tight. As long as it isn't blowing water out of the rad, drive it some more and loosen it up. Get it out on the open highway, let the breeze get at it! Town driving will kill many a big old V8 in hot weather.
