a new hurdle on my fuel tank quest!
I have a '65 LTD and purchased a tank for a 1966 model, the tank is larger but fits fine.
The problem is where the filler neck goes into the tank. the old tank has an internal o-ring the neck slides through. The new tank has an external seal.
I looked at several old ltd's and galaxies and seemed to find a distinct difference in filler necks. mine has no collar to stop it from going too deep, but these others have a collar made onto the neck.
Is all I need a correct neck and seal? (grammar)
Thanks in advance, from a dummyLast edited by 662doorgalaxie; 02-23-2011 at 05:00 PM.

'66 neck and seal sounds right. I assume you got the tank into place with the original straps? If not, NAPA has some longer universal straps. I went surfing when I read your thread and discovered that the '65 gas tank was a one-year only model that is pretty much impossible to find new, 20 gallons as compared to 25 gallons on the '66.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

thank you
I have found a used neck, but I have had no luck with the seal, or boot. It is definitely not going to be an o-ring.

Got It working!!

I got the seal from green sales company, old ford parts supplier.

Isn't is amazing how small items like a gas tank can become such a pain to resolve? Looks like you finally licked it though.
