    1940 would be gear head lathe . up in the front of were my is shop the land lord has one i think it came out of a ship as well

    Yes it is a gear head lathe and the best thread cutting lathe I have ever used. It has a 5 hp motor at 240 volts that weighs 180 lbs. They just don't make motors like that any more.
