swirl marks
I am getting a used car from the dealership (20,000 miles) It had a few lite scratches on it and they said they would take care of it. I go back a few days later and the scratches are taken care of but the whole side of the car has swirl marks.
Talking to the sells man I told him I was not going to except it and he says they will try again but they will not come out. I am going back tomorrow to check it out again.
Why is it not possible to take swirl marks out? I was under the impression if you knew what you were doing there are no swirl marks.

Sounds to me like they had the used car prep guy do it with compound.
They will come out - maybe! They should be using a 1500 compound then a swirl remover compound. But the reason for 'maybe' is that if it's the OEM paint, there isn't a lot of thickness to work with and you might see primer

Swirl marks can be taken out but they must be polished out. Using a good adjustable speed buffer with the proper polishing wheel and polish . Sounds like what Dave said.......they told a guy that washes the used cars to buff out the scratches.

Thanks for the input guys. I agree they either told the guy that washes the cars to do it OR what I see happen more often the guy needed work and did this on purpose to get more work out of it. Thats just a assumption though. I really dont think it needed a buffer on it to begin with , a good hand wax would of taken care of it. Anyways I got them to respray the truck. It looks great now but they missed a spot so it had to go back.
