    Horn(s)

So where do people mount the horn on a highboy, and is it good to run two, like a hi-tone/lo-tone? I noticed at the local auto parts OEM style replacements that are small, probably 3" x 3" footprint, but they had hi and lo tone units.

Roger - these are the horns I'm using - they are LOUD - and I mounted them directly on the engine with a cast and tapped hole on the block. If they fail early from vibration or heat - so be it!! But they are in the radiator fan air stream.

You can see them on the engine's right side (photo's left). A note - the a/c stuff shown is currently 'gone'

Roger, I saved this pic for an idea on horn mounting, maybe it will help.

Roger, YES, do the hi/lo horns as a pair! I mounted mine to the block / trans on the left side of the engine. I figure they are out of the way and unseen. I got them (OEM replacements) from the local parts house too.

with mine, I think I'll grab a pair from a vehicle at the junk yard and mount them under the floor

Thanks to all. Mike, once again your photo library had just what I was looking for. I picked up a pair of Blaster Hi-Lo units at AutoZone today, a choice between 125dB and 132dB a $2 differential price. Knowing that sound intensity increases with the square of the dB the seven point delta is almost 50% louder by the book, and I can attest that 132dB is LOUD!!! Not semi air horn loud, but definitely going to be heard.
