What year were catalytic converters required on chevy trucks? I'm hoping I don't need one for my 83 that i'm rebuilding. thinking about going without it anyway if i do.

It will depend upon the state you live in. Here in Utah, if it came with a cat from the factory, you have to have one on and functioning.

and the size of the truck. 1/2 tons had to have them 3/4ton & up didn't.
But if it doesn't get tested or have an inspection i wouldn't worry about it.
Or you could do like some folks have done when they had to get it inspected or tested , gut one to make it appear it has one on it. But several companies do make small hi-performance ones nowadays.
