Sanderson header install

we hAve sanderson on the 429 installed per directions. no problems in running engine, but only in garage so far.

I had great experience with sanderson. we needed custom headers on the driver side to accomodate the Toyota steering box (power steering for 51ford truck). contacted sanderson because we had a set already and their site mentioned custom headers. they shipped me q box of tubing, I cut and arranged it and tacked. sent it back, they made a set based on that and sent it for test fit, then coated and finished it. 100 bucks over regular cost.

Well I don't need to worry about how to install them quite yet...the passenger side header won't clear the motor mount! :CRY:. I test fit the drivers side when I was doing the steering, but never tried the passenger side. Now I have to figure out a way out of this :HMMM:

I'm serious, call them up. you could sell that set and for 100 over the cost of a new set get that side custom built. OR just get a new custom set for that side, butthen you have ne header, k da hard to sell (I've got the passenger side for a 429 if any ody is interested :-) )

yea but I paid however many hundreds of dollars for these headers, so I would take a hit selling them and then pay an extra $100 for a custom set. I haven't given up yet...it clears the bulk of the motor mount, but if I could somehow cut the side of it and brace it I don't need all that much room. I'm just not sure about cutting the mount. Maybe I could find mounts with less of a metal shell...I think these are from a Nova. Maybe I'll try and snap a pic tomorrow.

Yep, shoot some pictures in good detail. Someone on here might have a solution.

`35 you can trim that mount down, just remove it and do it, if it needs correction just have some body weld on it, its a torgue down side, its not as critical.

Sense we are on the subject of Sandersons, anybody bought a set of CC11 or C11, I need the measurement from the hedder flange out to the inside of the collector left side block...? If anybody could help would be appreciated.:toocool:

With a Chebbie engine there have to be several other motor mounts that will work - including some that you can fab yourself. Look at Chassis Engineering (http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com/page1.html it's not a friendly web site, but they do have good stuff ) Fords can also have some problems. The motor mounts that TCI supplied to me with my chassis wouldn't even fit their frame mount - made in China crap. I had to buy some US made. Regardless, the Sandersons are close as these photos of mine will show:

`35 any three bolt early right side chevy motor mount will fit that, the early ones will not have the locking tabs on it that are hindering your hedder fit

Rich- That classic chevy site seems to have a pretty good deal at $20. My google search hasn't turned up anything better. I'll probably just order a set and hope for the best! I'd rather swap them out and just save this set for something later to make it easy...as if anything is easy :whacked:

Dave- I can only get half of your first pic to load, but I am curious what kind of clearance is acceptable so I will check back on that pic later.

I have about a half inch between the mount and the pipe on each side tho the motor mount through bolt is closer - about a quarter inch (Ford mounts are different configuration then a Chebbie).

Hopefully you can open the picture - it's Photobucket and they should be sized right for here.

yea thanks dave...it came up later yesterday. i reloaded a couple times, but it kept just loading the top half of the picture. it looks like its touching in the picture :LOL:. I ordered some new mounts...hopefully they get here by the weekend, but I'm not counting on it. maybe I can get the new mounts in and headers on next weekend if everything fits :HMMM:
