i see no problem in the direction you`re headed .. if when you add weight back to the bed it comes a bit too close then go with a heavier shock or additional leaf spring .. when i tubbed a 70 ford truck many years ago i simply split the factory tubs and added about 6 inch strip of metal .. i ran a 32 x 14 slick with no probs ..
