In the long run you would probably be better off swapping it out for an 8" Ford which would have a much friendlier ratio for cruising and also parts availability.If you find one a little narrower that would be a plus also 52-54 Fords and Mercs have a very limited amount of wheel well room which severely limits what tires and wheels you can run.
