    #1 is battery post
    #2 is ignition triggered
    #3 is usually batt source through an idiot light,
    can be attatched to the "Battery" post with no problem.
    #4 is a hole which is used for testing the output. Sticking a little wire or small allen wrench during operation will full field the alternator and give you the reading of what the thing can put out for total amps and voltage.
