    Best low profile jack

Did a search and only came up with limited information. Anyone have great success with any "reasonably" priced low-profile floor jacks? Sears reviews indicate lots of trouble; Harbor Freight seems like 50/50; some indicated Grizzly (Grizzly.com) might be OK. Need a jack for the garage. Basically looking for 2 1/2 to 3 ton, I guess. Thanks

Gave $65 for a 3-ton unit at Costco years ago. Still using it today. Pad is 5" off the deck.

I got mine from Harbor Freight. I would not buy things like that usaully from there but it seemed nice for the price. Its the low profile alum jack and have not had any complaints.

i just picked up a 3 ton aluminum jack from harbor freight tuesday. it was 70 bucks on sale i think. so far i really like it since it is much easier to move around than my big one and i can actually fit the jack under my front crossmember. the jack does feel a little light duty, but it should work fine for the price. i forget the brand..probably the same one as bigtruckdriver

I have a Sears 2 ton - which I don't trust as it occasionally decides to lower itself. It goes up fine, but.... I also have a cheapie Taiwanese 2 tonner that I bought about 1987 to replace a dead pretty good one. It still works fine after lots of abuse. It even will lift the front end of my 4x4 V10 F350 - but it's starting to drip oil now (wonder why!!)

Whatever you buy, cheap or expensive, give it a good work out and make sure it will stay where you want it at least 'til you can get the jack stands under the car

I too usually do not buy Harbor Freight brands for important (life threating) tools. I bought the little cheapest (on sale $79.00 ?) just for around house. Liked it so much, next sale bought another. They sell out quick but you can get rainchecks that work. You just have to help them by calling every week till they come in again.

I got a 6 ton SUV jack ($90) from Sam's club 6 years ago and while it ain't no lightweight I can depend on it to lift a trailer loaded with a car in order to change a flat. Also use it for general lifting around the garage. I also have an aluminum racing loboy floorjack ($150) rated at 1.5 tons, not as strong as the other one obviously, but light enough to throw in my Mullins and will get under some very low body areas where a regular jack just won't go.

Some company sells one that is a scissors type in a box. Pretty pricey but certainly necessary for getting some cars up off the ground. It's usually advertised in Street Scene, Street Rodder, etc. Don't know what the lifting capacity is, but it is designed for street rod use.

spend the extra $$ and get an aluminum jack. Your back will thank you.

I bought mine from ASAE Deals [ believe that is correct name] a few years ago. Long frame, low profile saddle [3" I think]. I can slide it under my 46 coupe with MII and dropped spindles without driving on 2x4's. Seems like maybe $250???

1st qustion should be, how often do you use a floor jack???? For occasional use, a $70 jack might be all you need, but if you use it daily or lift cars and trucks whose weight approach the load rating of the jack, spend the bucks and get a good one.....Tools are an investment, not an expense!!!!!
