    1967 Ford Cougar Tranny ?

My brother in law has a 67 Cougar that I'm trying to get him get started on. It's all original, he got it about 5 - 6 years ago, and it's been sitting in his garage since then. The main thing that has to be done is the tranny needs to be rebuilt or get a new one. Can I tell from the VIN # which tranny his has so I can start doing some research before we get started?
If not, is there any way to tell other than pulling it out?

All small blocks had a C4 automatic
All big blocks had a C6 automatic

If it is a stick shift, you need to let us know the information off the drivers side door data plate

    Thanks Bill. It's a 289 Auto.

They're were over for dinner tonight and we messed with my Vette some (I'm redoing the interior) and I've just about got him geared up for getting started on this project that's been sitting for way too long. He just finished putting the last of his 3 kids through college and I honestly think he's forgotten how to do fun things for himself.
