Hey everyone, how's it going? I have some experience with looking at 93+ 350, the LT1, LS1 and the such. But I have never really learned a whole lot about the old school carburated route. Let me know what you guys think of my plan

I am going to be buying a 1980's chevy pick up in the next week or two, and I was planning on building up the engine a little bit. I was jut looking for some input from you knowledgeable people.

I plan on keeping the initial build around $2000-$2500 on the high side.

I want to do heads and cam definitely, intake and carburetor as well. Maybe a 383 kit, or simply a forged bottom end, or even just leaving the bottom end stock for the time being

I am aiming for around 400 hp at the wheels, give or take, and 450 ft/lbs+ of torque. Is this possible on that budget?

Also, what would I should I be looking at for heads and a camshaft with these goals in mind?

I might be shooting it up with 150-200 shot of nitrous down the road, so would need to be pretty solid. I don't want to put in any parts more than once, and would need to run it on pump gas.

My plans for the truck are...nice engine, body work, chrome. It will see some track time, but mainly on the street. Will never see the mud...
