How to delete key on GM tilt/tele column?

Hey, I have an old '69 GM tilt/telescopic steering column with column shift. I was wondering if it's possible to eliminate the key mechanism and install a plain smooth collar in it's place for use in a vehicle that already has the key switch on the dash. Where does one find a smooth collar for that section of the column? Any thoughts? Thanks.

What I have done is remove all the stuff to do w/the key itself(tumblers & locking mech.) along w/any of the ing. switch stuff & then grind the nub down & fill it w/ JB weld or auto body filler, then repaint it.
