    rocker panels on 42 chevy

i was looking at the rotted rockers on my 42 chevy and considering paying alot of money for the repos. but after looking at them, i don't see why i couldn't fab them out of thin wall rectangular tubing. this is a rat rod, so originality isn't important. i am doing away with the stainless trim at the bottom. anybody ever do this? same thing with the floor supports. square tubing seems like it would be fine. flat sheet metal with maybe a few ribs for support for the floorboards. when i was doing muscle cars and corvettes, originality was important so i would always try to replicate the factory look, but in this case, it would seem i could do better. there are no rules in hot rodding...right?
