    Cool Tool

Last week I posted a blunder on my steering column, where the threaded end mushroomed in an attempt to remove a 69 year old steering wheel.
Fortunately I found a new tool which is a hinged die that will clamp bellow chowdered threads and back off cutting new threads. My choices were limited to replacing the entire column or this! So I thought I'd share in case someone else could benefit from this, and invite others to post cool tools too.
Below is the chase em back tool which you can get here http://www.chaseembacktools.com/

Here is a before shot of the damaged end and an after shot with the original nut back on

Very nice, I think we could all use one of those.

The guy who makes them, is only about an hour from here, I guess he pretty much sells them from a small mom/pop setup. Very quick though, arrived day after I ordered it. I was very skeptical as to how well it would work, but it worked great. He makes sets of them for wheel lugs and spindles, as well as other applications.

Great idea. I sort of made the same thing one time by cutting a nut in half and clamping it back together with vice grips to the bolt that was boogered up, and running it back off to clean up the threads. Looks like the one you bought would do a really good job, just like a regular die.
