Hooking 392 up to turbo 400, what should I do???
Hello Everyone, either tomorrow or the next day I'm going to rent an engine hoist & put my 392 Hemi into my '32 Ford {turbo 400 trans}. Just finished the motor mounts & the mock up engine is installed. Is there anything that I need to be careful of? Watch for? I've pulled engines out before but never put one in. The transmission is already in the car. Is this the correct way; 1) bolt flex plate on to crankshaft hub & bolt the trans to engine adapter onto the engine. 2) push Torque converter onto transmission shaft {after filling with oil}. 3) put the motor in 4) bolt up the transmission to the engine 5) then bolt the tq converter to the flex plate. That's it? as always THANKS

Somewhere between 3 and 4, I've found it helpful to use two lengths of allthread about 2" long. Screw one into each side of the adapter and use as a guide into the bellhousing holes when going together. Make sure there's nothing behind the bellhousing holes that the allthread could injure as it goes in and make sure they aren't too long to remove with the motor and all in place. Once you get a couple bolts into the adapter, screw the allthread out and replace with bolts.
Another tip is to use an engine leveler. It takes the pain out of puttin' a motor in. They're available from a variety of sources, maybe even from a local rental place. Here's a photo of the Eastwood model.....

...Thanks Tech!
... The place I'm renting the hoist from mentioned that they also rented engine levelers. I will get it too.... So with the 2 pieces of ready bolt I'm basicaly using them as a guild to line up the motor to trans. Bolt the ready bolt onto the trans & then slide the motor onto the all thread & push back until the engine hits the trans... Will do, good idea
Thanks again

When in danger or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout.
Then ask the Techinspector.
