Help! 1940 ford windshield wiper transmission

Help please!!
I have a 1940 ford coupe and the chain to the windshield wiper transmission either broke or came off of the transmission. HOW DO I GET IT OUT? I cant seem to find any screws or clips yet to get the dang thing out. I need to pull the transmission out of the cowl to get to the chain to try and fix it. Any suggestions? The car has an electrical coneversion already. Thanks for any help. Bill

Not sure if you're asking how to get the wiper tower off the cowl or disassemble the guts of the wiper tower.

If you're talking about getting the tower off the cowl there's a U shaped retainer on the underside of the cowl that bolts to the bottom of the tower. If you've got a working cowl vent, radio, anything else under the dash it can take some contorting to get to it.

If you're talking about disassembling the tower unit/chain drive that's a little more difficult depending on how corroded it is inside. The bottom piece that retains the chain ends and has the arm that attaches to the motor assembly is held in with a bolt, the chain ends hook over notches on that "wheel". The upper gear is held in place by the wiper stub that is press fit from the outside of the tower. You'll need to pull that out of the upper gear if possible to take it out if necessary. Depending on your casting you may be able to thread the chain through without removing the upper gear, but it's not often possible. Bob Drake makes new replacement assemblies, and I think I have a pair of good originals out in my parts collection if all else fails.
