Dave, stock 35 and 6 owners are well versed in the problems of the low mounted fill. Here's a shot showing a typical outcome from acceleration with the stock setup in the first pic.
35, the fill behind the plate thing would be discrete, I'd say you need to relocate the fill hole/pipe to the center back of the tank. You'll have to dodge some bracing back there as that's where the original spare carrier was located. While I agree with your doubts about the fill in the trunk thing, I'm a fan of mounting it under the fender. No exotic plumbing just a later model fill pipe adapted in with a support bracket. Here's a pic of my '36 roadster door, it's from a '46-8 Ford. I like it better than the aftermarket stuff and the contour fits the fender perfectly.Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 01-04-2009 at 07:24 AM.
