Alright just got me a new powerplant and tranny to replace my current 350/350 setup in my 51 Chevy Coupe.:toocool:

Got me a nice 5.3/4l60e setup w/ only 10k miles to swap in :D
Now starts the madness, I will try to keep the thread updated with any new info and if anybody has done a similar swap or know someone, feel free to chime in with some advice as this will be my first motor swap with something this new:rolleyes:
The May issue of Car Craft has an article on installing a Gen-III engine in to an A body (they're using an early El Camino), along with some identifying info for the various LS-2 / LS-6 stuff. There may be some useful information there.
Alright I know for this motor I will need a high pressure pump, I found out that the 5.3 needs 55-62 PSI to run and that a S-10 Blazer with the 4.3 needs 60-66 PSI.:cool:
With that said I am assuming I should be able to use the S-10 tank for my swap, but don't know for sure since I am still kind of learning about all this fuel Injection stuff **)
If anybody is good with FI, feel free to chime in w/ some opinions:toocool:

Alright well just ordered me some parts, got me a new monte carlo tank, sending unit, and an edelbrock high pressure in tank pump.:D
Motor mount adapters got here yesterday and sent off the computer and wiring harness to be reworked and reprogrammed to take off any excess emmissions or anything else I will not be needing.:3dSMILE:
going to be an interesting build up... With the price of fuel going so ridiculously high, anything for the street that can add both horsepower and economy is going to be the coming trend in Hot Rodding..... Who did you get to redo your harness?????
I am going to have Wait4me Performance do the harness and program the ECM.
Yeah and as for gas, thats whats so great about these Gen III motors, you can make 400 HP and still get 18MPG and up. Thats one of my reasons for doing this.
Theres some guys, drive their cars to the track and then drive home getting like 22MPG, thats just awesome I think.
if you don't mind my asking...what are they charging to reprogram the computer and clean up the harness?
There actually really reasonable, its going to cost $300 to have the factory harness reworked and computer reprogrammed. They seem like really nice people too and I haven't heard any complaints about them, so I'm hoping for good things.

Alright, well the motor is in......though they sent me the wrong sending unit for the fuel tank.......but other than that the engine and tranny is installed, I will have to make a K-member for the trans since it is longer than the Th-350, but I should be able to fab something up. Well other than that, **) I am waiting for my sending unit and here are some pics of the install.

Well, ran into a few snags, the harness for the motor was missing too much to be modified so now I have to find one.:HMMM:
My question for this is do I have to find a drive by cable harness or can one off of a DBW motor be modified to fit my application?:confused:
Also going to put my tank together, just got my sending unit since they sent me the wrong one the first time:cool:
I believe that the drive by wire harness will work. It will just have extra wires you don't need. I think I recall you had wait4me do your computer, to be sure, give him a call or email him with your harness question. Glad to see you are making progress. What tank did you decide to go with?

Well, turns out the car had a tank off of a G-body monte carlo, so I just ordered another monte carlo tank but for the fuel injected version and then ordered the sending unit for that tank
You can use a harness without the drive by wire if you just swap your throttle body for an earlier version. They're all over e-bay for dirt cheap. I have a 98 Camaro wire harness, ECM and manual on how to make your own harness on E-bay if you're interested. Look up item #220221408245
I think I would have painted the engine compartment and firewall before installing that in there.. Sheesh..
Alright well got the new tank in and plumbed the fuel system finally:D
Also got the cooling system hooked up and am working on the tranny cooling lines currently, I got a external trans cooler to help keep the trans a little bit cooler since it is a bigger trans than the th350. ;)
I yanked the PS pump, since the car does not have it and went to the parts store for a smaller belt and rerouted it, seems like it'll work, its pretty solid in there and everything is spinning the right way.:rolleyes:
I also fabricated up a K-member for the new trans so now the motor and trans are in there nice and solid.:whacked:
Dropped the driveshaft off at the shop to get shortened about 1/2 an inch so that should be ready to throw on today or tomorrow:)
Got my ECM all tuned, now I just need a wiring harness to hook everything up, still gotta find one.**)
Only a few things left before firing this beast up:
-gotta hook up shift linkage to trans
-wiring harness
-throttle cable (probably get one from Lokar)
-install driveshaft
-and whatever else pops up when those are done:LOL:

so did you decide to buy a new Painless harness instead of using the stock harness?
Well my harness that came w/ the motor was cut up too bad and missing too many connectors to reuse. Whoever pulled the motor just cut it all up, and I couldn't find any harnesses separate out here and if I did, they were too expensive and I would have ended up spending more to rework it than just getting a painless.
So I just went ahead and went with Painless
Got a present today from the delivery man. :3dSMILE:

-hook up o2 sensors
-hook up guages, and it should be ready to go

Well, just realized today that the truck 5.3 manifolds are not going to work.:mad: Was about to get some flanges made with o2 bungs when I noticed the driver side manifold is right over the frame so there would be no way to hook the exhaust up to it.:whacked:

So I was wondering if f-body manifolds fit tighter or if there are any good suggestions for headers, or just any suggestions at all:confused:
I ended up using Sanderson headers. Had to modify the drivers side quite a bit. They were great to work with, sent me a box of scrap bends for $20 to do the mods with. When they were were finally right I sent them back and they ceramic coated them for $120. Had them back to me in less than a week. http://www.sandersonheaders.com/ Not all of their LS1 headers show on their web page. Call and ask them to send you a catalog to see them all.

But someone said that they fitted some Kooks f-body headers into their 48 chevy coupe and the frame seems very similar to mine, so I am wondering if I could maybe fit some full length headers made for an f-body
