Start motor without Trans T/V cable?
Just installed the 700r4 but don't have the T/V cable. Can I start the engine without damaging the tranny? I don't plan on moving the car or revving the engine. I just want to know if the tranny will go into the gears at low speed and the rear wheels are off the ground.

TV cable
700R4's damage easily if that cable is not on and adjusted properly,do yourself a favor BUY the cable first! Go to google for tips on adjustment of the cable also not a bad idea to have a trans shop make the final settings with a pressure gauge.

It won't hurt a thing. One of the reference measures when setting up a 700R4 is to determine the pressures in ALL gears, at idle and with the TV disconnected. Don't wing the engine or drive the car, though.Jack

And after you drain the wine bottle to keep the contents from going bad, you wont even care
(Sorry Denny, I just couldn't pass that entry up)

700r4 starting w/o kickdown cable OK!
I started and left at idle speed (500-700rpm), went through gears ok. Plugged cable hole with piece of vacuum hose and looped cooling lines. I did this because I did not have mounting brackets for throttle and TV cables yet. But the bowtie overdrive website recommends doing this test for pressures.
Thanks for the help.............
I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
