    ranger oil pressure problem

i just bought a 92 ranger super from my brother about a week ago. it has the 4.0 motor. the truck sat for about a year, my brother got the truck and found that it was having oil pressure problems. the truck can sit on an idle and be fine all day, as soon as you hit the gas the pressure drops way to low to keep with the engine. im not sure what it might be, im going to start at the pump and work my way p from there. any advice is appriciated

I agree with Denny. Also would change the oil & filter. Look for the simple answers then if you have to check out the harder things.
I just wonder what happened to GOVERNMENT of the people by the people for the people?

Agreed it could be sludge that settled out in storage, that stuff can go like cement. At idle there's enough gap below the screen to keep the pump full, raise the rpm and it starves and cavitates. I,d pull the pan first thing.

If the oil pressure sender is mounted on an extension stalk (short piece of hex steel) at the front of the engine similar to the 5.0 liter Mustangs it's a good possibility the vibrations from the stalk have damaged the sender.

I lost three of them on my purchased new and well taken care of 88 Mustang GT - two were genuine Ford and supposedly vibration resistant - and one was a parts house deal.

I stuck a short stretch - 10"-12" - of hydraulic hose in between the extension stalk and sender then used an Adel clamp to support the outer end of the hose where the sender was screwed in.

    End of problem.

i have changed the oil and filter, it didnt help much at all. right now im looking for the pressure sending unit my next move will be to drop the pan. does anyone know if i can just take the motor mounts out and lift up the engine without removing the front 4x4 axles, chiltons says to remove the axles but i dont want to if i dont have to.
