I would get a mirror and put it underneath the water pump to make sure it is coming from there and not leaking down from the thermostat housing or a pin hole in one of your hoses spraying up on the water pump. If it is coming from behind the water pump, (I'm not too farmiliar with the small block Dodge) some water pumps have plates on the back of them and when you get your new water pump they don't supply the new plate, so you have to take the old plate and put it on the back of the new water pump. You can check with an auto parts store. I had that happen to me when I was working on an old ambulance but I don't remember what engine it was. Let me know how it turns out. I hope this helps you.

P.S. you can get a new water pump thats bad to, rare, but it can happen.
