    what rear end is this?

     



    does anyone know what kind of rear end this is?
    all i know is its 5 lug and has a 12 bolt cover, i looked on ringpinion.com but didnt see any rear ends that matched it,

    some sort of mopar? passenger car definately ,pull the cover and measure the ring gear that might help a little

    Spring hangers are on top of the tubes----out of a truck!!!!

    Maybe not, I think the rear end is upside down.

    I think the rear end is sitting right side up, there appears to be a mount for a pinion snubber and the vent hole is visible on top of the axle tube. looks kinda like a GM 12bolt to me but the bolt pattern accross the top dosen't quite look right

    Should be able to measure the bolt circle on the hubs to narrow the id down. Most cars/trucks have specific bolt circle measurements and all are nearly different with the exception of some Fords and Mopars. Once you determing the make based on the bolt circle then you can try to find out what it is out of.

    You can do a little process of elimination and avoid some of this seemingly contradictory guessing by measuring the bolt circle of the axle studs. It looks to be fairly "tight", but then my calibrated eyeballs are as well calibrated as they once were. Anyway, if it's a 4 1/2" circle that eliminates GM, if it's 4 3/4 that eliminates Ford, Mopar, AMC, If it's 5", well back to the drawing board. If it's a 4" circle it's small Mopar such as Dart/Valiant.

    Is there no tag on it with any kind of numbers?

    I know GM used a 5" cause that's what my Olds has, and some old Fords were 5.5". Not sure about Mopars, only had a few of them in my life.

    BTW, Bob where is Maple Valley in relation to Seattle??

    I have to travel to Seattle next August for business and plan to do a little touring while there.

    It gets dicey in that 5 and 5.5 deal. GM full size pickups use 5". Ford family had some 5" in big bodied cars, and of course the 5.5" was a truck deal up into the '80's I think, as well as pass cars '28-48, and Merc to '51. Chrysler Imperials of the '50's also had 5.5"

    Beautiful Maple Valley is SE of downtown Seattle about 25 miles. The airport is about a 22 mile drive, practically due west. You're welcome to stop by if you wish and we can kick a tire or three.

    well it came with a ramcharger when this guy bought it
    and the only numbers i found on it were this,

    It's a 9.25 Chrysler.
    Commonly mistaken for a 12 bolt GM
    The axle in the pic is correct side up, the spring pads are on the top of the axle
