Air gap is measured inside the distributor. Recluctor wheel aligned with pick up coil (Magnet looking device). Brass feeler gauges are available cheaply at the majority of part houses. Don't use steel or non brass/bronze feeler gauges. Double check shaft play in the distributor for excessive play or all this work is for naught.
