    i think i would make it out of iron will not take out the acme threaded steel rod steel on steel not good for wear . here some thing to run by you a very easy fix ? i the Mcmaster-carr book they sell aAMCE CYLINDER NUT #95080A112 page 3099 take the two parts of the 1/2nut bore it out for cyl nut stop be for you go all the way thru this will be a foor to stop the amce cylinders nut. put nut in the two parts of the1/2 nut now tig weld the ends of the nut in cut the cylinder nut then clean up all new amce threads
