chevy 283 manual
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good 283 repair manual. I don't know what year the 283 was built or even what car it came from, so setting point gap, which was answered on a previous thread, and other settings for a tuneup are hard to find. I was thinking of the HAynes book for chevy and there is this other one titled how to rebuild your small block chevy by Vinzard or Vinard. I don't want to spend the money on a book and have it not include the basics, like tune up, proper amount of oil, spark plug gap, etc. Any Ideas. By the way the 283 is in a 1957 WIllys CJ5. Thanks.Paul

Any manual on building small block chevies will work for you. There is a book called the Peterson's Big Book of Auto Repair that has tune-up specs for all engines for all American manufacturers. I use that one.
