Here's a picture of 2 Chevy Alternators, the one on the left has a resistor on the regulator 100 AMP and the one on the right does not 140 AMP. Can someone explain why one has the resistor and the other does not? I wie/2 Wire?

That resister thingie just keeps the alternator charging minimally when the regulator kicks out. Not really necessary. I chuck 'em. They're always fried anyway.

The One on the right smoked on me today, so I took it apart to see what fried and it was the diode trio, it is removed in the picture. I took another one I had apart to compare and I noticed that the good one had that resistor accross the regulator. I know the trio is required, its the resistor I'm questioning. Buy the way Denney thanks for the test procedure on the Diod trio.

Denny has you headed in the right direction. I did notice on your 140, the reg to diode trio bridge is missing. Please make sure that is installed. And like all posts before, the resistor is not necessary.

If I moved to the midwest, I would have to learn a whole new classification. I'm sure we share the same sanctions, but I'm telling you I would have to reclassify in my mind which is which.

Yeah, the resister does keep the idiot light from coming on when the reg. kicks out. Like I said, it keeps a very small charge rate going. I forgot about needing it with a light, I always run amp gauges.
