    point gap

by the way...does anyone know the point setting for a 283? I don't know the year, since it is in a 57 cj5 jeep, but I think maybe the plug gap and all the settings are standard. I think maybe the gap is to be at .019..can anyone verify this? Thanks...Paul

If memory serves me correctly, the point gap should be .017 and the dwell 28 to 32 degrees.

    .016" 28-32 degree's dwell...

Make sure to put some lube on the rubbing block..
Set the dwell to the low side.
Set the dwell first, as it affects the timing.

so are you saying the Pertronix Ignitor II Kits will basically convert my distributor to a point free type..so I won't have to keep replacing the points? that would be nice.
