Questions on my 9" Ford rear end, 35 to 31 spline axles, etc...

....Hi Everyone, A couple of questions; #1) I have a '32 Ford that has what's called a 'Hot Rod' 9" Ford rear end in it with 31 spline axles, single track & 3.0 gears. It has the 3" diameter housing..... #2) I also have a 9" Nodular Iron center section with a spool that's set up for 35 spline axles & has the large bearings in it. The housing that this center section came out of measures 3 1/8".... #3) I would like to use my Nodular Iron center section {mentioned in #2} in my Hot Rod rear end with my 31 spline axles {mentioned in #1}. Will it fit??? I also want to add a True Track w/ lower gears.... THANKS, Bill

If you replace the spool with a tru trac or another type of differential for 31 spline axles in the nodular carrier you should be fine.

Call Moser and ask about having your axels bearing surface turned down to fit the sealed ball bearing. With this the retainer will ony have to hold the axels in and no seal is required.

If you add disc brakes depending on how they are mounted, you may need to make a 1/8 spacer to make up for the backing plate.

If you are using drums all should be ok. Just be sure to check the depth of spline engagement on the 31 spline axels. Make sure they don't contact the spider pin.

...Bentwings, THANKS for the info! I'm going to have a local place set it up for me. I will ask them about the depth of the spline engagement though. I'm using drum brakes..... Bill
