With street tires, a 28 spline should hold up fine if it's in good condition when it's installed. Heck, I've ran mid 10's with a big block and slicks on 28 spline spool and axles.... Twisted and broke an axle eventually, but it made a lot of passes before "retiring". They are a tough unit.
