Rear end help

Hi, I just signed up and I have a question. Im in the process of building a chassis for 1930 model A 4 dr and I need adice on what rear end works in the car. It will be full fendered with 15x8 steel wheels and 235/75-15 tires. I was thinking of coilovers but am open to suggestions if it wont kill rear seat room.any help is greatly appreciated.

Seanpd, I bought a 30 a couple of years ago that had a early ford courier pu rear axle under it that really worked great until the left axle shaft broke at about 65 mph. Now it is going to have a 9" that I cut down so that I can keep the big tires under the fenders and not worry about the small shaft breaking again. The 9" will be hard to tear up with a stock 302. I hope

Saving money on a light duty rear end for a Hot Rod seems like a good plan when you build it........ For durability, reliability, and resale a 9" Ford is tough to beat!!!!

Ok Ill go with the 9, but how wide should i get it to tuck the tires under the fenders with the wheel tire combo I stated earlier? I know a stock rear end is 57" drum to drum.

The best way to figure the rear end width you will need is to put the wheels and tires you will be running under the car, then measure from wheel flange to wheel flange.... This way you get the correct width rear end the first time....

I have 8" maverick ,fits w/o mods ,with auto trans holds up well . If you need backing/backing measurment I can get for you by Mon/Tues next wk. Home computer is been fixed so I will not have access till then . 31 5w

Yeah, those Mid '70's Maverick rears seem about right for these A's. The S10's are a little too narrow, I would think. I have both rear axles, and the S10 is considerably more narrow than the Maverick.

If you aren't out hammering the A, with sticky tires, the 8 inch is ok, and a lot more available than the 9 inchers.
