Its not 1/2 course or fine thread and a 14mm won't fit. Is this a special GM thread? it measures .550" on the OD of the thread[/QUOTE]
Did you try 9/16" UNC or UNF?

If it's a 70-74, it is too early to be metric....mrrilla's suggestion
has merit. If you still are baffled, call a power steering pro

I have found these boys to be very knowledgeable about GM
pumps.

You know what is super funny? I'm going through this same exact dilemma on my '69 el camino. It seems to be 9/16 thread, but I can't find the nut anywhere. I tried parts stores, ace hardware, and the only thing close was Home Depot, they had an empty box for a while but they don't stock it anymore. I was actually going to try the chevy dealership today, and I saw this thread. How funny is that. I'll let you know if I get it at the chevy dealer.

I tried several wrecking yards trying to scavenge a nut from an old pump but finding a nut retained PS pump is hard. A 9/16 nut may work but thats not very common. Please let me know if you find a solution 69elko, there are so many of these pumps on the road I can't imagine this is a problem.
