haven't actually seen them in use, but I know of the tools.

The Eastwoods' planishing hammer/ english wheel combo is supposed to have some some awards so they must be pretty good.

Thing about the english wheel, is it needs a lot of practice to get it right.

Planishing hammer is about the same, but it goes faster ( and is louder )

if ya got the $$, the time, and the patience, I say go for it.

your biggest question is: to buy the stand or make it yourself.

Think I'll buy the wheel and planishing hammer pieces and make my own stands. I'd like a little deeper throat to work some wider pieces....

i have both a english wheel and a planish hammer . i use my planish hammer 10x more than the wheel . the wheel is good for making blood shoot out of the ends of your fingers !

Good one Kenny.I will second the planishing hammer. Its really a give and take on both. The English wheel will smash the S%*T out of the fingers. But the planisher hammer will make you deaf. So pick your poison. Band aids or Advil.

I'll second the motion from kennyd...........I utilize a Northridge planishing hammer way more than I'd ever use the wheel.

The one + for the wheel is it can make larger panels quicker than the hammer could ever.

If you doing smaller repairs & not actually building qrtr. panels, roofs, door skins, etc. then the hammer is the way to go.

Just a note though........buy the best planishing hammer your wallet will allow. There is a lot of junk units on the market.

Prices range from almost reasonable to down right out of sight!
