Dave, I have a couple of vintage planishing hammers that may give you some ideas on how you can improve on the ones for sale. The "head" comes off and installs into different "bodies". These are hand held but the body could be floor mounted if you made up a stand. I plan on making a floor mount for mine, and I HIGHLY recommend doing the same. With the floor mount you make a foot pedal operation. Holding the handle down with one hand while you move the metal with the other is a total joke. If you are using it as a hane held and your moving the tool over the fender or what ever that is mounted on the car, that is a super neat tool to have. But if the part is small and you have to do it with one hand while activating the one off with the other on a bench mount, that SUCKS.

PS, you don't want to know how I fell into both of these tools (about 10 years apart from one an other) it will make you sick. Basically I have 25 bucks invested in both!
