It is a 392 Hemi and it is the water cross over pipe that connects to front of each head. The 291 Hemi that I first had in the car, it went into back of head and the original gauge was used and worked fine.

I'd have to see it but if the heads are interchangeable (left to right ) there should be a port you could use on the back of one or both heads??? But then I haven't worked on a hemi since 64.

You can drill and tap a hole in the intake, where it covers the rear water passage.
